UK to Ban British Companies from Providing Maritime Services for Russian LNG Exports
On the 11th, UK Foreign Secretary Cooper announced that Britain plans to phase in a ban, starting from 2026, on its companies providing services such as shipping and insurance for Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports, aiming to further restrict Russia's energy exports.
According to British media reports, Cooper stated before departing for Canada to attend the G7 Foreign Ministers' Meeting that this move aims to cut off Russia's channels of acquiring funds through energy exports and urge it to end the Russia-Ukraine conflict. The latest ban prohibits British companies from providing transport, insurance, and related services for the export of Russian LNG to third countries. It will be implemented in phases starting in 2026, in coordination with European partners.
This is another sanctions measure targeting Russia's energy sector announced by the UK, following last month's sanctions against two major Russian oil companies—Rosneft and Lukoil.
