Police Intensify Crackdown

Information from the official website of China's Ministry of Public Security shows that since July 2023, when the ministry launched a special operation to combat telecom and online fraud crimes involving northern Myanmar, public security authorities across multiple regions have conducted joint operations under the ministry's command to investigate cases, leveraging the China-Myanmar law enforcement and security cooperation mechanism.

Regarding overseas fraud dens, China's public security agencies have fully engaged in international law enforcement cooperation, actively sought support from relevant foreign law enforcement departments, and persistently pursued crackdowns to resolutely dismantle overseas fraud dens and issue warrants for major fugitives involved in fraud. As for domestic black and gray industry gangs, authorities have conducted in-depth investigations and analysis, organized concentrated campaigns and regional operations, and severely cracked down on criminal gangs engaged in promotion, money laundering, and technical development for overseas fraud groups, decisively cutting off key domestic criminal chains.

To date, China's public security authorities have arrested over 55,000 Chinese nationals suspected of involvement in fraud crimes, completely dismantled the notorious "Four Families" criminal syndicate in Kokang, northern Myanmar, and eradicated all large-scale telecom fraud compounds in the northern Myanmar region bordering China.

Public information indicates that there are currently over 50 types of telecom and online fraud, with online rebate scams, fake investment schemes, fraudulent online loans, impersonation of customer service, and impersonation of law enforcement being the five main categories.

AI face-swapping and voice simulation technologies have made scams more realistic and deceptive, while new fraud methods like screen sharing and fake online investment schemes are highly concealed and fast-acting, capable of causing significant financial losses in a short time.

The official WeChat account of the Criminal Investigation Bureau of China's Ministry of Public Security recently warned that during summer vacation, five types of telecom and online fraud are particularly prevalent, including part-time job scams, flight ticket refund scams, concert ticket purchase scams, online game account and equipment trading scams, and education institution refund scams. "No matter how you plan your summer activities, stay vigilant against fraud," the police reminded.
