Denmark Temporarily Bans Civilian Drones to Ensure Security for EU Leaders' Meetings
Beijing, September 29 (China News Service) - The Danish transport authorities announced on the 28th that a ban on all civilian drone flights across the entire country will be in effect from September 29 to October 3. This measure is to ensure the security of the informal meeting of EU leaders and the meeting of the European Political Community leaders, which will be held in Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark.
According to the regulation, drone flights can only be exempted "in very special circumstances" if they involve major public emergency missions. Violations of the flight ban may result in fines or up to two years' imprisonment. The Danish transport authorities stated that the police have significantly enhanced vigilance and will deploy forces as necessary to "protect the Danish people and guests."
Denmark holds the Presidency of the Council of the European Union from July to December 2025. During this period, Copenhagen will host the informal meeting of EU leaders on October 1, followed by the meeting of the European Political Community leaders on October 2.
Recently, drone activities have been detected multiple times over several Danish airports and military facilities. On September 22, several unidentified drones were spotted over Copenhagen Kastrup International Airport, leading to the suspension of take-offs and landings for approximately four hours. From the night of the 24th to the early hours of the 25th, drones were observed over three Danish airports, an air force base, and a military facility, with Aalborg Airport forced to close for several hours. On the 26th, the Danish military again detected drone activity over Karup Air Base. (End)
