China Imports Zero US Soybeans in September, American Farmers Urgently Await Government Aid

Customs data shows that in September this year, China did not import any soybeans from the United States. This marks the first time since November 2018 that China's monthly soybean imports from the US have dropped to zero.

Amid tariff tensions, this year's bumper harvest season for American soybean farmers arrived without "Chinese orders." Meanwhile, as the world's largest soybean importer, China is increasing its purchases from South American countries to replace US soybeans.

According to reports from Reuters and others, from January to September this year, China imported a total of 63.7 million tons of soybeans from Brazil, a year-on-year increase of 2.4%, and 2.9 million tons from Argentina, a year-on-year increase of 31.8%. China's soybean imports from South American countries have hit a record high.

Reuters noted that if the upcoming trade negotiations between the US and China yield no breakthrough, American farmers could face billions of dollars in losses as China continues to procure soybeans from South America.

Bloomberg reported that dissatisfaction among American farmers is intensifying due to the loss of Chinese buyers. They are under pressure from falling soybean prices, and many are eagerly awaiting US government assistance. However, due to the government shutdown, this aid is currently on hold.
