On November 26, according to police sources and insiders who spoke to the New York Post, a tech investor who previously dated OpenAI co-founder Sam Altman was targeted in an armed robbery at his San Francisco residence last Saturday evening, resulting in the loss of crypto assets valued at $11 million.

Surveillance footage showed the suspect disguising himself as a delivery person carrying a white package and ringing the doorbell of the $4.4 million home. When the perpetrator falsely claimed to be delivering a package for "Joshua" and identified himself as an employee of a UPS partner, the victim opened the door and confirmed he was Joshua. After pretending to ask for a signature and borrowing a pen, the suspect followed the resident inside, and a loud noise was heard shortly afterward.

Police sources stated that the suspect held the victim at gunpoint inside the home, bound him with tape, emptied his crypto accounts, and stole his phone and computer. When police arrived at 6:45 p.m., they found the victim with multiple bruises. Investigators familiar with the case revealed that the gunman stole $11 million worth of Ethereum and Bitcoin, believed to be a targeted attack by an organized crime group.

According to insiders, after restraining the victim, the suspect tortured him, beating him while on a speakerphone call with a foreign-accented voice on the other end repeatedly reciting the victim’s personal information. The robbers then emptied all of his crypto wallets within approximately 90 minutes.

It is reported that the 31-year-old homeowner, Lachy Groom, is a venture capitalist and the ex-boyfriend of 40-year-old Sam Altman. Property records show that he purchased the home from the Altman brothers in 2021 for $1.8 million.
