Minister of Natural Resources Guan Zhi'ou Meets with Chilean Minister of Mining
On November 24, Minister of Natural Resources Guan Zhi'ou met with Chilean Minister of Mining Aurora Williams and her delegation in Beijing. The two sides exchanged in-depth views on deepening cooperation in the field of geology and minerals between China and Chile and reached multiple consensuses.
Guan Zhi'ou pointed out that this year marks the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Chile, and it is of great significance for the two countries to strengthen mining cooperation. Over the years, the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Chilean Ministry of Mining have maintained a good cooperative relationship, with strong complementarity and a solid foundation for cooperation in the mining sector. To further deepen cooperation, Guan Zhi'ou proposed: consolidating the mining cooperation mechanism between the two ministries and promoting the early signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in geology and minerals; advancing the establishment of a China-Chile Geoscience Cooperation Center to build a long-term cooperation mechanism, laying a technical and talent foundation for cooperation in the geology and mining sectors of both countries; encouraging mining enterprises from both countries to carry out investment cooperation based on market principles to achieve stable supply chains and mutual benefit; leveraging the role of the Mining Congress as a cooperation platform, with both sides continuing to exchange high-level delegations to participate, strengthening communication and interaction, and expanding cooperation space.
Aurora Williams expressed agreement with the Chinese side's suggestions. She stated that Chile highly values mining development and is willing to further deepen exchanges and cooperation with China in fields such as geoscience and the development and utilization of lithium resources in salt lakes, building on existing cooperation.
The meeting was attended by Vice Minister of Natural Resources and Director of the China Geological Survey Xu Dachun, Chilean Ambassador to China Pablo Alliaran, relevant officials and research institution representatives from the Chilean Ministry of Mining, and responsible officials from relevant departments of the Ministry of Natural Resources.
