Dongfeng Liuzhou Motors Caught in Ideal’s Crash Test Controversy, Continues Posting Responses!

The test video showing "Ideal i8 colliding with Chenglong truck, causing the latter’s wheels to bounce off" has sparked ongoing debate. Dongfeng Liuzhou Motors’ official WeChat account "Chenglong Truck" has posted articles about vehicle safety performance for seven consecutive days. On August 6, Dongfeng Liuzhou Motors’ customer service told N Video reporters that "the company has assigned a dedicated department to handle the matter and has formed a task force." N Video previously reported that Ideal Auto responded to the controversy, stating that the crash test inadvertently dragging Chenglong Truck into the dispute was "unintentional."

On August 6, "Chenglong Truck" published an article titled "Dragon Bone Protection! The ‘Tech Armor’ Behind Truck Driver Liu Hehe’s Narrow Escape." Since July 31, the account has posted daily about its brand’s vehicle safety performance. Regarding the "controversy over Ideal Auto’s crash test involving Chenglong Truck," Dongfeng Liuzhou Motors’ customer service told N Video that the company has established a specialized team to address the issue and advised the public to follow the "Chenglong Truck" official account for updates.

Dongfeng Motors’ spokesperson Lü Haitao previously addressed the controversy at a press conference, stating, "From Dongfeng Group’s perspective, we fully support Dongfeng Liuzhou Motors in legally safeguarding its legitimate rights and brand reputation."

Earlier, N Video reported that a test video from Ideal Auto’s new car launch event—showing an "Ideal i8 colliding with a Chenglong truck, causing the truck’s wheels to lift off"—drew widespread attention. Some netizens questioned the quality of the Chenglong truck involved. On August 1, "Chenglong Truck" responded, stating, "After technical verification and professional evaluation, the test scenario and equipment in the video differ significantly from real-world traffic conditions," and assured customers, "Please rest assured when purchasing and using our trucks."

In the following days, the account released multiple posts, including "Only by Surviving Can You Talk About Ideals," "Core Strength, Reliable Quality—Chenglong B10’s Durability Ensures Safe Transport," and "The Dragon’s Backbone, Fearless of Challenges."

On the evening of August 3, Ideal Auto issued a statement saying it had commissioned a third-party authority—China Automotive Engineering Research Institute Co., Ltd. (CAERI)—to conduct the high-intensity crash test. "This test was not intended to evaluate the product quality of any other brand. The second-hand Chenglong truck used in the test served only as a moving barrier, and we neither intended nor made any suggestive quality assessment about it. We regret that the test inadvertently involved Dongfeng Liuzhou’s Chenglong brand in public controversy."

That same evening, CAERI also released a statement clarifying that the test was "not a standard vehicle-to-vehicle collision test and does not evaluate the safety performance of other brands’ vehicles."
