Trump Says He Will Nominate Interim Fed Governor in Coming Days
Beijing, August 7 (Xinhua Finance) — U.S. President Donald Trump said he may nominate an interim Federal Reserve governor in the coming days to fill a vacant seat, rather than using the opportunity to signal his preferred candidate for the next Fed chair.
"We may go with an interim first and then go permanent," Trump told reporters at the White House on Wednesday. "I think the interim will be announced in the next two or three days, and then we'll go permanent." Trump said he is considering "roughly" three candidates for the role, who may come from Wall Street.
He added that Commerce Secretary Rutnik, Treasury Secretary Besant, and Vice President Vance are among the advisors involved in the process.
Trump reiterated that he still views former Fed Governor Kevin Warsh and National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett as top candidates in the event of a chair vacancy.
