US Government to Cancel "Solar for All" Program, $7 Billion Funding Likely Halted
(Washington, August 7, 2025, CNA Comprehensive Foreign Reports) The Trump administration today moved to terminate a $7 billion program aimed at installing solar panels on rooftops in low-income and disadvantaged communities across the U.S.
The program, called "Solar for All," was included in President Biden’s landmark Inflation Reduction Act of 2022.
According to AFP, the initiative involves 60 grant recipients, including state agencies and nonprofits, selected from both Democratic and Republican-led states. The program was designed to help over 900,000 households save hundreds of dollars annually on electricity bills.
In a video posted on social media platform X, EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin stated that the "Big and Beautiful" tax and spending bill passed last month repealed the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund, which housed the "Solar for All" program.
Zeldin said he is now obligated to comply with the law.
He claimed the program’s funds were being diverted to administrative costs by "middlemen," calling it a "scam," though he provided no further details.
He also criticized the program for waiving "Buy American" requirements, calling it "great news for China."
According to analysis by research firm Atlas Public Policy, only $53 million of the $7 billion pledged under the program has been spent so far.
