The Metaverse: Leaping into the Digital World

There is currently no unified understanding or consensus on the concept of the metaverse. Below is a summary of our perspective: Functionally, the metaverse is a platform that hosts virtual activities, enabling users to engage in social, entertainment, creative, exhibition, educational, and transactional activities—both social and spiritual in nature. The metaverse provides users with rich consumable content, a fair creative platform, a reliable economic system, and immersive interactive experiences. It can serve as an emotional anchor, giving users a sense of psychological belonging. Within the metaverse, users can experience diverse content, befriend others in the digital world, create their own works, and participate in social activities such as trading, education, and meetings.

Beyond appearances, the core of the metaverse lies in its ability to reliably carry users' asset rights and social identities. By replicating the underlying logic of the real world, the metaverse becomes a robust platform where any user can participate in creation, with their labor achievements safeguarded. As a result, labor, production, and transactions in the metaverse are no different from those in real life. For example, a virtual house built by a user in the metaverse can be freely traded without platform restrictions, exchanged for other items within the metaverse or even the real world, with its price determined by the market.

We believe the significance of the metaverse far surpasses that of gaming and social platforms. Its emergence may reshape mainstream societal perceptions of "existence" itself, as the leap into virtual space-time is an inevitable trend in the development of information technology and human civilization. The metaverse represents a mode of human civilization’s existence in virtual space-time—one that seeks to fulfill subjective human experiences but is by no means limited to being a large-scale entertainment platform.
