Wang Yi Meets with Thai Foreign Minister Mari

On August 14, 2025, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Thai Foreign Minister Mari, who was in China to attend the 10th Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) Foreign Ministers' Meeting, in Anning, Yunnan.

Wang Yi said that this year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Thailand and the "Golden 50 Years of China-Thailand Friendship." Over the past half-century, no matter how the international landscape has changed, the two sides have always firmly supported each other and advanced practical cooperation in various fields, making the concept of "China and Thailand as one family" deeply rooted in the hearts of the people. At this new historical starting point, China is willing to work with Thailand to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, deepen bilateral and multilateral strategic coordination, achieve new outcomes in building a China-Thailand community with a shared future, elevate Lancang-Mekong cooperation to new heights, and inject new impetus into regional peace and stability. The two sides should maintain high-level exchanges, strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation, successfully hold the remaining celebrations for the 50th anniversary, and consolidate the public support for bilateral friendship. China is willing to work with Thailand to accelerate the construction of the China-Thailand railway, encourage more Chinese enterprises to invest in Thailand, tap into the potential for cooperation in green development, the digital economy, artificial intelligence, and other fields, and ensure the stability and smooth flow of regional industrial and supply chains. China hopes Thailand will provide more policy support and convenience for Chinese enterprises.

Wang Yi noted that Lancang-Mekong cooperation is practical, efficient, and mutually beneficial, and has become the most successful sub-regional cooperation mechanism. As Lancang-Mekong cooperation enters its 10th year, it is at a critical stage of building on past achievements and forging ahead into the future. This Foreign Ministers' Meeting is being held in Anning, China, a city whose name symbolizes peace, harmony, and unity. China is willing to work with Thailand, as co-chairs, to ensure the complete success of the meeting, uphold the broader picture of solidarity and cooperation, and safeguard regional peace and stability.

Mari said that Thailand-China relations have achieved fruitful results over the past 50 years. Thailand looks forward to working with China to promote the sustained and healthy development of bilateral relations, deepen Thailand-China friendship, and achieve more cooperation outcomes in the next 50 years in both bilateral and multilateral fields. Anning is a beautiful and modern small city that reflects China's development philosophy and achievements, serving as a model worth learning from. Thailand attaches great importance to Lancang-Mekong cooperation and believes that under China's strategic leadership, Lancang-Mekong cooperation will deepen and expand, playing a greater role in regional prosperity and stability.

The two sides exchanged views on the situation along the Thailand-Cambodia border. Wang Yi said China supports Thailand and Cambodia in strengthening dialogue and consultation, rebuilding mutual trust, and restoring friendly relations, and supports ASEAN in resolving internal issues in the "ASEAN way." China is willing to provide necessary assistance based on the wishes of both sides. Mari highly appreciated China's objective and fair stance and its constructive role in de-escalating the situation.
