Latest Data Released: "Huawei Tops Global Rankings"
According to a report on the Nikkei website on October 1, Chinese telecommunications equipment giant Huawei's presence in the smartwatch market continues to grow. Its quarterly shipments surpassed Apple's, claiming the top spot globally. As the average selling price of Huawei smartwatches is only half that of Apple Watches, against a backdrop of global price increases and growing consumer frugality, the exceptional cost-performance ratio has become one reason Huawei's products are winning over consumers.
Reportedly, data from the technology market research firm Counterpoint Research shows that from April to June this year, global smartwatch shipments increased 8% year-on-year to 34.4 million units. Among these, Huawei's shipments grew 53% to 7.2 million units, capturing 21% of the global market share and ranking first for the first time. Meanwhile, Apple's shipments fell 3% to 5.8 million units, with a market share of 17%.
One reason for the popularity of Huawei products is their affordability. Counterpoint's data indicates that the average price of a Huawei watch is $227, about half that of an Apple Watch ($413).
Many Japanese electronics retailers reported strong sales of Huawei products, with some older consumers who prioritize functionality choosing Huawei watches as their first smartwatch.
Huawei watch models with blood pressure monitoring features are also popular, with some children buying them as gifts for Respect for the Aged Day.
Yoshio Tamura, head of Counterpoint's Japanese subsidiary, believes: "Huawei's products are being driven by the rapidly growing smartwatch market in China, and shipments are also increasing in Europe and other regions. For now, it appears Huawei's market share will continue to expand."
