IEA: Russia's Natural Gas Exports to Europe Drop Significantly
The International Energy Agency (IEA) stated in a report released on the 27th that Russia's natural gas exports to Europe fell significantly in the first three quarters of 2025, with LNG exports decreasing by 10% year-on-year and pipeline natural gas exports dropping by 45%.
According to the report cited by TASS, affected by sanctions, Russia's LNG exports in the first three quarters of this year decreased by 11% compared to the same period last year, a reduction of approximately 3.5 billion cubic meters. Among this, Russia's LNG exports to Europe fell by 10%, a decrease of about 1.8 billion cubic meters. Meanwhile, due to the impact of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, Russia's pipeline natural gas exports to Europe dropped by 45% year-on-year, a reduction of about 10 billion cubic meters.
The report stated that in the first three quarters of this year, US LNG exports to Europe surged by 60%. US LNG accounted for 60% of Europe's total LNG imports, solidifying its position as Europe's largest LNG supplier, surpassing Russia.
The report forecasts that Europe's total LNG imports for the entire year will hit a record high, increasing by approximately 20% compared to 2024. It noted that European LNG prices remain high due to factors including rising consumption demand and reduced pipeline natural gas imports.
According to previous reports, EU member states have reached an agreement on the 19th package of sanctions against Russia, which will for the first time prohibit Russian LNG from entering the European market.
