South Korean Government Establishes AI Task Force with Samsung, Hyundai, etc., to Formulate Deployment Plan for 260,000 Nvidia GPUs
Following Nvidia's announcement last month that it would supply 260,000 GPUs to South Korea, the South Korean government, together with Samsung Electronics, Hyundai Motor Group, and other companies, established a joint artificial intelligence task force this Thursday. The aim is to plan the deployment of these 260,000 GPUs and promote the establishment of AI infrastructure nationwide.
Last month, Nvidia announced it would supply over 260,000 of its most advanced AI chips to the South Korean government and several major South Korean companies. This represents Nvidia's latest expansion in South Korea. This deal will increase the number of Nvidia AI chips used in South Korea from the current 65,000 to over 300,000, thereby making South Korea one of the world's largest AI computing centers outside the United States.
Ryu Je-myung, the Second Vice Minister of South Korea's Ministry of Science and ICT, chaired the first meeting of the South Korean AI Joint Task Force today. Executives from Samsung, Hyundai, SK Telecom, and Naver Cloud attended the meeting to discuss the deployment strategy for these 260,000 GPUs and how to expand cooperation to strengthen South Korea's AI ecosystem.
Moving forward, the Ministry of Science and ICT will maintain regular communication through this task force and hold high-level task force meetings to explore strategic responses. Participants agreed to maintain a regular coordination mechanism through this new task force in the future.
Ryu Je-myung stated, "The government and the private sector will join hands to become a leading force in the field of artificial intelligence and take multi-faceted policy initiatives to build an ecosystem that can drive the development and expansion of domestic AI competitiveness."
