Poll: Support Rate for Japanese Sanae Takaichi Cabinet Exceeds 60%, Surpassing Shigeru Ishiba and Fumio Kishida Cabinets
According to a report by Kyodo News on October 23, the latest public opinion poll conducted by the agency shows that the support rate for the Japanese Sanae Takaichi Cabinet stands at 64.4%, surpassing the initial support rates for the Shigeru Ishiba Cabinet and the Fumio Kishida Cabinet. The disapproval rate is 23.2%.
The survey revealed that 70.2% of respondents believe it is "inappropriate" to appoint Hagiuda Koichi, a key figure involved in the "black money" scandal and a former member of the "Abe faction," as acting secretary-general.
The report pointed out that 76.5% of respondents expressed "welcome" or "relatively welcome" attitudes toward the view that Japan's first female prime minister will promote the increasing participation of women in society.
According to the report, the disapproval rate for the Takaichi Cabinet is 23.2%. In the most recent survey in September, the support and disapproval rates for the Ishiba Cabinet were 34.5% and 51.4%, respectively, indicating the effect of the change in prime minister for the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP). The support rate for the Takaichi Cabinet is slightly lower than the 66.4% support rate for the Yoshihide Suga Cabinet when it first took office.
A combined 64.4% of respondents gave "good" or "relatively good" evaluations for the ruling coalition formed by the LDP and the Japan Innovation Party. Meanwhile, 66.2% of respondents expressed "approval" of the Komeito Party's decision to withdraw from the ruling coalition with the LDP.
According to previous reports, on the afternoon of the 21st local time, the Japanese Diet's House of Representatives and House of Councillors held a prime ministerial designation election, in which Sanae Takaichi, president of the LDP, emerged victorious, becoming Japan's 104th prime minister and the first female prime minister in Japanese history.
