UK Decides to Sell 20 Eurofighter Typhoon Jets to Turkey
Turkey and the United Kingdom signed a £8 billion (approximately $10.7 billion) arms deal on the 27th, under which the UK will sell 20 Eurofighter Typhoon jets to Turkey over a 10-year period.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held talks in Ankara with visiting British Prime Minister Keir Starmer on the same day, and the agreement was signed following their meeting. Erdoğan subsequently stated that this deal is a "new symbol of the strategic relationship" with the UK and will open doors for other cooperative projects in the defense industry between the two sides.
Starmer said the UK will provide Turkey with 20 Typhoon jets, with the possibility of supplying more in the future. He stated that this deal will deepen UK-Turkey bilateral defense cooperation and enhance the security of the entire NATO alliance.
The Eurofighter Typhoon is produced by the Eurofighter Jagdflugzeug GmbH consortium, comprising the UK, Germany, Italy, and Spain, and is assembled in the UK. Exporting the Typhoon jets to countries outside the consortium requires approval from all four aforementioned nations. In July this year, following the initial agreement signed between the UK and Turkey, Germany also agreed to export military equipment to Turkey.
