MOFCOM Spokesperson's Response to Media Inquiry on Nexperia Related Issues

Q: Recently, there has been high public attention on the progress of consultations regarding the Nexperia issue. What is the Ministry of Commerce's comment on this?

A: Previously, the Chinese side has already responded to related comments from journalists concerning the Nexperia issue. I would like to reiterate that the Dutch government issued an administrative order on September 30, improperly interfering in the internal affairs of Nexperia. Subsequently, a Dutch enterprise court made an erroneous ruling depriving the Chinese company of its equity, which severely infringed upon the legitimate rights and interests of the Chinese enterprise. Following this, despite the reasonable demands repeatedly raised by the Chinese side during consultations, the Dutch government has not demonstrated a constructive attitude or taken concrete actions, and has instead escalated the global supply chain crisis. Nexperia (Netherlands) announced on October 26 that it would stop supplying wafers to Nexperia (China), preventing the latter from operating normally and causing disruption and chaos in the global semiconductor production and supply chain. The Dutch side should bear full responsibility for this.

Adopting a responsible stance towards the stability and security of the global semiconductor production and supply chain, the Chinese side announced on November 1 that it would grant exemptions for eligible exports and is striving to facilitate the resumption of supplies to Nexperia (China). However, the Dutch side continues to act unilaterally without taking practical actions to resolve the issue, which will inevitably exacerbate the negative impact on the global semiconductor supply chain. This is an outcome that the Chinese side and the global industry do not wish to see.

China hopes that the Dutch side will proceed from the broader perspective of maintaining China-Netherlands and China-Europe economic and trade relations, as well as the stability and security of the production and supply chain, act responsibly, meet China halfway, cease interference in corporate internal affairs, and find a constructive solution to the Nexperia issue. Meanwhile, China will firmly safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of enterprises and work diligently to maintain the stability and smooth flow of the global semiconductor supply chain.
