France Significantly Increases Space Defense Budget to Address New Security Challenges
French President Emmanuel Macron announced on the 12th that France will allocate an additional 4.2 billion euros for space defense capabilities by 2030. This aims to address the increasingly severe space security threats and strengthen the security and competitiveness of France and Europe in the space domain.
Macron made the announcement while inaugurating the French Space Command Center in Toulouse, southwestern France. He stated that France will add 4.2 billion euros to the existing 6 billion euro space military budget to counter space-based threats faced by France and Europe, such as spy satellite activities and large-scale GPS jamming.
He also indicated that France's civilian space sector will receive over 16 billion euros in investment, which includes dual-use projects. France will also prioritize the development of next-generation reusable launch vehicles, focusing on three key areas: reusability, low propulsion cost, and high thrust.
