What to Do If You Forget Your Stock Trading Account? How to Close a Stock Account
Before the end of this month, released data showed that over 1.4 million new accounts were opened. The stock market is a place where some enter and others exit. When opening an account, everyone gets their own stock trading account, just like having a bank card. Now, the rules allow multiple accounts per person, with each individual permitted to open up to two accounts. However, due to infrequent use over time, some may forget their stock account details. What should you do if you forget your stock account when a bull market arrives and you're ready to trade?
Currently, there are three ways to retrieve a forgotten stock account. You can choose one of these methods based on your needs:
-
Forgot Your Account?
-
In the securities trading software, select the "Forgot Account" option at the login page to recover your account.
-
Use your second-generation resident ID card to retrieve it directly.
-
This method applies to various types of account recovery.
-
-
Call the Securities Company’s Customer Service Hotline
-
Provide your ID number and verify your trading password, and the customer service representative will retrieve your account for you.
-
If you’ve forgotten your trading password and cannot complete identity verification, you’ll need to visit the nearest branch with your ID card to inquire.
-
-
Contact Your Account Manager or the Branch Where You Opened the Account
-
Call your account manager or the original branch where you opened the account and provide your personal details to retrieve your account.

The issue of forgetting a stock account mainly concerns investors who still have funds in the account or wish to continue using it. For those who no longer need the account, they can simply abandon it and open a new one with another securities company. Alternatively, they can choose to close the account.
The threshold for opening a stock account is relatively low—only requiring the investor to be at least 18 years old and not exceed three accounts. However, the requirements for opening a stock options account are stricter.
If there are funds in the stock account, it can be reactivated after retrieval. However, inactive accounts with no funds or transactions will enter a dormant state. To reactivate such an account, you must visit a securities company branch in person.
Previously, closing a stock account could only be done at a branch. But now, to improve customer service, online account closure has been implemented. Just as accounts can be opened online, they can also be closed online. Most securities companies now support this method, making the process much more convenient.
